Regarding Tinker Boards

Considering how I have absolutely no idea what those things are, here is what they are according to their manufacturer over at Asus:
Tinker Board is a Single Board Computer (SBC) in an ultra-small form factor that offers class-leading performance while leveraging outstanding mechanical compatibility. The Tinker Board offers makers, IoT enthusiasts, hobbyists, PC DIY enthusiasts and others a reliable and extremely capable platform for building and tinkering their ideas into reality.

What that means is, from my understanding, that it offers tinkers a platform to make their own little robots or whatnot.

The Story

This little tidbit of news I picked up literally by chance as I was browsing PCMag and it piqued my curiosity. It seems that ASUS has joined forces with Google to create what they call "Tinker Boards", more specifically Tinker Edge T and Tinker Edge R, which are a credit-card sized mini computers, that seem to be geared towards AI applications.

The news cropped up on numerous websites, including 9to5Google, Anandtech, as well as the official site of Asus themselves. The plan behind this partnership is to provide hardware solutions that enable the development of AI solutions that are not only compact but are also energy efficient with far lower power draws than comparable PCs, said 9to5Google.

Personal Thoughts

This seems like very interesting news to me. If the specs of those Tinker Boards deliver as planned, then I am sure we will see a rise on custom made AI creations pop up all over. I believe that the success of this endeavor will influence the future of the attention companies give to the tinkerer/inventor market, and I for one, am hopeful this will go well.

Despite not being a tech oriented person, I am looking forward to hearing more about this, and seeing that more attention is given to this field, as the Tinker Boards seem to have applications with a wide enough range to suit both the corporate and the hobbyist.
