Neverwinter Online
Neverwinter Online is an mmo game produced by Arc that is set in Faerun, the famous realm of Dungeons and Dragons. More specifically around Neverwinter and the sword coast.
The game features a lot of very interesting and fun mechanics incorporating the 4th edition of DnD perfectly into its game. With a fun story, good looking armor (considering its a free to play game), fun classes a main story you follow as you level up etc.
All and all, despite its server issues, it is a very fun game that is enjoyable both alone and with friends. Today's gaming story is about the time me, Elias and Basil decided to make characters and play the entire thing co-op. However we were not expecting a few things.
First and foremost, the game is built in such a way that it ramps up the difficulty as you go on. The idea is to have the initial story be easy to solo as you level up your newbie character, learn your class etc, and as the game goes on it grows harder, as you would expect, considering you would both know your class better, and by now be social enough to have a few playing buddies.
As if you would interact with other people. HA.
Second of all, we did not expect the classes we picked (Paladin, Paladin and Ranger) to deal SO much damage so consistently. As the idea was that Basil tanks, I heal and Elias does the damage, when we found out that we were ALL doing damage in addition to our roles, things got tricky.
What Was Meant To Happen
The story normally has you surviving a shipwreck after an attack from a monstrous undead dragon. An undragon if you will. With the city under siege from a Lich and its undead hordes, you are a young adventurer that will be enlisted by Sargeant Knox, who's ability in combat is only rivaled by the amount of times his name is purposefully mispronounced to cocks. As still an inexperienced warrior or mage, you are tasked with secondary tasks. Namely, the recovery of the crown of Neverwinter, which was stolen by some rebels calling themselves Nashers.
The story would have you be always half a step behind them, with their mysterious leader, Karzov, always eluding you. Through the story, you eventually make your way into Blacklake district, where you chase the bandits, fight were-rats, uncover their hideout, raid it heroically only to have the 2 top lieutenants of Karzov hold you off giving him just enough time to escape, barricade himself and prepare for a last stand.
With a few of the higher ranking officers assisting you, you will help clean up the district from were rats and bandits, burn their supplies, investigate and eventually corner the villain, end him and take the crown back to its rightful place.
When playing alone, I have to admit, the entire thing feels pretty epic. The lieutenants give up quite a fight, and you will have to weave through their attacks, unleash your most powerful spells and spent a potion or two to get it over with, giving their leader enough time to make his escape while you run behind him to the warehouse.
But then, our characters come into play. Adellaide the Human healing paladin, Drognar the dwarven paladin and Elijah Hardwood our archer ranger. Unlike what the game was supposed to do, we were not playing alone. We were a band of brothers (and sister) out for bandit blood.
"Just a few more days for retirement"
"Pose for the camera ladies!"
What we said when the crown was stolen
What Actually Happened
With three well equipped (for our level), on discord and ready to rumble, we began our furious pursuit for the crown of Neverwinter like bloodhounds on a hunt. Unfortunately for our enemies, we were not playing solo, and as such we cut through the area like a lightsaber cuts through butter. Leaving a trail of corpses, while we were just talking about current events, exchanging news and just laughing at our enemies horrified expressions we made it to the first hideout. Between the group of three brave adventurers the only one that seemed to be rather concerned about the entire ordeal was in fact the elf, Elijah Hardwood.
The reason was because the other two, managed to slaughter the enemies faster than he could get a few good shots in, and he was worried he would not use all the new abilities he learned during our travels together. With plenty of target practi....I mean brave opposition from the bandits, we finally cornered Kazov and his two lieutenants.
With all the dramatic flair seen only in fantasy stories, the two lieutenants bravely announced to their leader that they would in fact hold us off, and give him time to escape.
We. Went. Apeshit on them. With all three of us unleashing our "ultimate" powerful moves, we took both lieutenants down from 100% hp to 0% hp in literally 3 seconds.
After the initial surprise of us -demolishing- the two "bosses" in the "epic boss fight", it was Drognar the dwarf that said "Oh wow, 3 seconds Karzov, they gave you 3 WHOLE seconds"
It came to no surprise that the trio pranced through Blacklake, burning rebel supplies, murdering rebels, undead and basically whatever came had the (un)luck to get in their way.
The trio continued to murder everything in their way, leisurely moving from one story to another, until they eventually had to disband due to time issues we had.
And so ends the saga of Karzov and his two lieutenants, that gave him 3 whole seconds and somehow he managed to rush ahead, barricade himself AND strike an epic Boss pose for the showdown. They will truly be remembered as "The most pointless bodyguards" in history
