The Ancient Times Of The 90's
Come with me my children, into the ancient lands of ancient 90's. Back where the transition from the previous lame age happened and we entered the glorious digital age.
As children's shows started to evolve, and the wild feral children that could play outside in glorious nature started to gravitate inside to play video games, came the rise of the licensed games.
Now, put your selves dear viewers into our shoes. Disney was having a renaissance, popping out one amazing music after the other, and off course with every good movie came a not so good licensed game.
However, a few of them not only are not terrible, but are maybe a few of the best games the Sega Consoles had to show.
Disney's Lion King
Lion King was probably one of the best kid's films Disney created. The game follows the story of the movie pretty closely. As we follow Simba's journey from a kid, to an adult to finally facing scar. The music is inspired from the Lion King official soundtrack, and the sound design is pretty amazing for the era.
Gameplay And Graphics
Many of you remember how the old games were "hard" and how those "youngsters" have it easy with those new games. Well news flash for you guys. The only reason why the old games lasted more than a couple of hours, is because the gameplay was shit.
I am not talking just your Dark Souls PC port shit, I am talking legit "hit box defying", "stunlock spamming" terrible. Oh and remember how we could not save the games back then? Yeah, I don't. Because I played the game recently.
And yet, here we are, in an Oldies But Goldies talking about this game. Despite the way the mechanics fight you with -every- turn, nobody can deny that in the end, ultimately, those games were just simple, straightforward fun.
Not to mention beautiful. The graphics and the pixelart is not only endearing and surprisingly vivid and colorful, but they are actually pretty amazing to look at, From the animations to the lighting and the colors, the game is truly a joy to look at, easy worthy of every second spent in it.
Final Thoughts
There really is not much to say about this game. It is an amazing game that is just plain fun even if the gameplay can be super frustrating at times. With amazing colors, good sound and never outstaying its welcome, this game is a very good display of what the Sega Genesis can deliver.
